The original dream was fairly simple: build a van around the way Julie and I actually want to travel. A permanent bed long enough for me, two gravel bikes stored safely underneath, a comfortable electrical system and the freedom to spend real time in the places we normally pass through too quickly.
Then the project became more interesting. A large white Ford Transit is a blank canvas, and in 2027 it will travel thousands of miles across Alaska. Why leave it blank?
What if the van could help pay its way while also helping other people travel Alaska better?
That question became Driven by Alaska. We want to share more than scenery. We want to introduce people to the campground owner who remembers every returning guest, the guide who understands a river, the restaurant worth pulling over for and the local product that genuinely makes the trip better.
A professional project with a human center
Ty is a lifelong Alaskan and nationally recognized marketing professional whose career spans the rise of digital marketing. Julie is a retired nurse who has called Alaska home for 30 years. We are active older athletes who are still curious, and we will be honest about what we use, where we stay and what we learn.
The van is being built now. The story has already started.
